Letterbox – Part two

‘Hi Bhavya, check ur letterbox once u r home. bye’

This was new to her. A message from her neighbour at this time! Bhavya began pondering about all the things she could have possibly missed due to the ongoing traffic in her brain since past few months.

Did I lose my passport or credit card somewhere? Did I miss paying any bill?(Being a defaulter outside India can be a big mess). Has someone come looking for me to complain that I did not dispose off the garbage correctly!! Is someone complaining that the lights in my apartment are kept on after 10 pm or am I too loud during the online meetings? Did I get any parcel from India? Do I need to collect it from Post Office tomorrow.

Oh God! I can’t go to post office as I have meetings from sharp 8 AM “.

Bhavya felt distraught and became frantic. She messaged back

‘Hey Aditi , Is everything alright?’

She wanted desperately that the grey becomes blue and get a reply from Aditi like ‘Everything is fine’, but it appeared like Aditi almost vanished after sending her first message. Aditi did not even see her message.

‘ The first time we met, Aditi said that she goes off to sleep early to attend early morning classes the next day. Has she dozed off already? ‘ Bhavya thought to herself.

Bhavya boarded the train as soon as it arrived. It’s a 7 minute walk from the station to her apartment which she almost hurried and covered in 5 mins. She hardly even noticed if there were anyone walking on the street.

As soon as she reached the main door of her apartment building and started to take out the keys (the main door to the building gets automatically locked after 6 PM), in a hurry, the keys fell down. She bent and picked it up and opened the door and nearly sprang to her letterbox. She unlocked it and was dumbfounded by what she saw.

The tension in her head disappeared, her furrowed brow eased and her smile muscles flexed. What a pleasant surprise!! Two food containers with the aroma of Indian food!! yippeeee yeeeee !!

‘Oh My God!!’, she exclaimed!

She happily took the boxes out and hurried up to her room, washed her hands, opened the boxes and her favourite rice, dal and egg curry neatly packed and placed!!

My God , I feel gluttonous ‘ she said out loud.

The food was still warm and she poured the contents into a plate and gobbled up like someone who was starving since days. All the while saying a silent prayer for the girl next door. Her eyes were moist and heart gratified.

The food with love

Oh Aditi , You are an angel‘ ‘. Bhavya wanted to almost cry out and give Aditi a tight hug. She felt like someone is looking out for her with care and love. Once done eating, she immediately jumped out of her room and rang the bell of Aditi’s apartment. Aditi opened the door, her eyes swollen as she was half asleep but she smiled and asked

Was the food OK?

Bhavya gave her a warm hug and said ‘Thank you so much! It was delicious.

Bhavya could not tell her how stressful and tired she was these days as she didn’t want to lose the magic of that content moment.

They soon became the best of friends πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ€β€πŸ‘©πŸ½ and often gave surprises to each other with nice and delicious dishes in each others letterbox😊. The letterbox soon became a ‘surprise food box’ for them.

Why did I want to share this story?

In this case Aditi was absolutely unaware of Bhavya’s situation but her kind gesture made a huge impact on Bhavya’s life. That is the presence of God or the Supreme Power. The Power who gives us hope when we find ourselves too distressed to fight anymore. That Power, who never leaves our side and is ready to pick us up before the fall. The miracle that exist in everyone’s life.

Maybe we ignore these signals in our mundane lives but if we pay attention to it , we will understand that we are never alone. Somehow, the Power always knows, when we need that little push, that little encouragement, that little love and hope and we get it when we need it the most.

I dedicate this story to my close friend Ankita πŸ’•. Love you dear and the magic of ‘that’ moment will always remain in my heart!!
